This blog is still alive, just in semi-hibernation.
When I want to write something longer than a tweet about something other than math or sci-fi, here is where I'll write it.

Down the memory hole, 21st Century style.

I was watching cable news last night, maybe because I thought my blood pressure just wasn't high enough, and I decided to throw in some Fox Noise just for fun, which is a very perverse idea of fun. Fox wasn't alone, but the basic message of these shows was that last weekend didn't happen. Georgia did not fire missiles into South Ossetia, killing its own people. Russia just went nuts this week without provocation.

I personally don't have a dog in this particular fight, much in the same way I didn't have a favorite when Iran and Iraq had their long war. I'd just like to say that when we thrown Saakashvili under the bus sometime in the future, and you can bet we will, we are going to be told he bombed his own people, just like we were told Saddam gassed his own people. The stuff in black and yellow is also true, but it will be left out of the explanation as to why our former ally is not to be trusted.

p.s. I'm going on a road trip this weekend for the first time in a very long time. There are no new blog entries planned until Monday. Have a good weekend, y'all!

Have a great break and don't watch any Faux news while you are on vacation. That way, you will double your fun and lessen your stress.

Thanks, everybody. Just a note from lovely Santa Barbara to say I'm on the road and everything is hunky dory.

Russians have their own way of doing things. As when a group of people are taken hostage by muslims.

The Russians attack the place where the hostages are held and kill ALL the hostage-takers. If a lot of hostages are also killed during the killing of the hostage-takers, that's just a bit of bad luck for the hostages.

Meanwhile, don't get near Chechnya. Brute force sometimes fails for the Russians, like it did in Afghanistan. But when the brute-froce approach is applied to places like Georgia, it's a winner.

Clearly Putin planned this attack for months. There's no way a military action of this magnitude can occur on short notice, as some credulous people have claimed.
