We really need this guy?

Excellent question, hypothetical question asker!

So Arlen Specter is now a Democrat (in name only) and this should mean that the Republican filibuster has been emasculated.

As a lefty, I should be happy, yes?

Wait a tic.

Specter was interviewed by Politico, and the big news is that he still supports loser and obstructionist Norm Coleman for the as of yet unfilled seat in Minnesota. Here's the money quote.

Q: With your departure from the Republican Party, there are no more Jewish Republicans in the Senate. Do you care about that?

SPECTER: I sure do. There’s still time for the Minnesota courts to do justice and declare Norm Coleman the winner.

Justice? He's lost every court battle. He's behind in the count. How is it justice to give him the seat?

This quote makes it clear.

Specter is a Republican first, a Jew second, and an American who believes in the rule of law third, at best.

Hating Washington culture. It's not just for teabaggers anymore.

Saw a great cartoon the other day -two pics of Specter on a fence with the GOP on one side and the Dems on the other. In one they're saying he's a Republican and in the other, he's a Democrat.

No matter what, I am grateful to Specter for crossing the lines - if only for the psychological effect it must be having on the Republicans.

I'm with Zaius. Even if Specter's a complete jerk.
