This blog is still alive, just in semi-hibernation.
When I want to write something longer than a tweet about something other than math or sci-fi, here is where I'll write it.

The first draft of history

News reports confirm that David Carradine has been found dead in a hotel room in Bangkok. He was 72. Carradine was in Thailand working on a film, and he was a no-show to a party given by castmates on Wednesday night.

According to Bangkok police sources, he was found hanging in a closet. According to his agent, it was natural causes. You can decide who you trust more.

While I could write an appreciation of Kung Fu, a show I loved when I was a kid, I am thinking more about these conflicting reports. If it turns out he did hang himself, people will not long remember that his agent lied about it when it was first reported. If he died of natural causes, the rumor that he hanged himself will last for years.

I send my best wishes and condolences to his family and friends, from a fan.

It's hard to believe that he was nearer to our parents' age than to ours.

What a sad thing for his family and friends - what a sad thing for us all.

Farewell, grasshopper.

I just posted a small tribute piece in my blog. I am so sorry to read this; I had a huge crush on him and on Barbara Hershey, his girl friend at the time he was making Kung Fu. But his family had more than their share of demons and if the hanging reports are true, then they caught up with him in the end. Still, I'd rather remember him as the calm and wise Caine, rather than the tormented guy that he probably was in real life.
RIP Little Grasshopper.

As I said, I liked Kung Fu when I was a kid. Some cable channel shows re-runs, and it's a little too slow for me now, though that is a common problem for dramas from that era. Ask Karlacita! about watching old Lou Grant episodes.

I remember seeing the Bruce Lee biopic that said he was supposed to play Caine, but that is Lee's widow's claim and isn't backed up by anybody else.

Most of all, I'm sorry that David Carradine is dead. His dad lived to be a jillion, so he wasn't all that old at 72.

However we came to this sorry state of affairs, it's a very sad situation.

From the latest accounts, it sounds like it wasn't suicide but auto-erotic asphyxiation a la Michael H. of INXS. I'm not sure that makes it better or worse, but at least he was trying to get off sexually rather than trying to get off the planet.

If you're gonna die with your boots on, as it were, maybe this is a good way to go.

It feels more like him than intentional suicide does!

We're getting farther and farther away from the natural causes story. The question now is whether he had company or not.

It does sound like Auto-erotic asphyxia.

and Dr. Zaius knows this how?

It does become a natural cause, though, I mean in a natural sexual auto-erotic mishap sort of way.

Chidrens, I hope you take this story to heart and practice safe sex in your closets!
